The Archive depends on money from outside the University for many of its special activities. It gains income from royalties from publications, and since 1991 the Friends of the Archive scheme has provided essential financial support for the Archive's activities.

Friends of the Archive 2010-11

Without the support of the Friends scheme, the Archive would struggle to collect new material from ‘ordinary’ people documenting everyday life in Britain.

Last year the financial support of the Friends enabled us to have an introductory leaflet about the Archive professionally designed and printed.This is the first time we have been able to do this. The leaflet is really useful for taking to events and conferences and it helps promote both the early material and the current Mass Observation Project.

This year we would like to continue to develop the Mass Observation Project and to look into new ways to make the material in the Archive more accessible to researchers.
